University costs
In general, university tuition costs are usually higher than
going to TAFE but don’t let this be a deterrent from endeavouring
your dream job. There are arrangements in place too help students
just like you through your study period. Some examples of assistance
that you may qualify for are Austudy, Abstudy or Fares Allowance. To
read up more about them and the eligibility requirements for these
benefits check out the
www.centrelink.gov.au site.
There are a whole range of courses available to study at
university and the fees again vary significantly. For accurate
information regarding higher education tuition costs, you may want
to contact the higher education provider. Alternatively you can also
access the Course Information System (CIS) at
www.goingtouni.gov.au. The CIS is a searchable database of
higher education courses and provides a range of course information,
including course costs and entry requirements. For an overview,
below is a table demonstrating a range of student contributions for
full time students at university.

* Contributions will
depend on the individual subjects and institution chosen.
Universities set their own level of student contribution in these
ranges.
Those numbers may look big to you, but if you have your heart set
on a course there is no reason why you can not pursue it. Once again
there is a way to help fund for the education that you want to
complete. It is called the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP).
If you are a Commonwealth supported student, all you need to pay for
is the ‘student contribution’ and the Australian Government will pay
for the rest of your tuition. This called a HECS-HELP loan.
If you have a HELP debt, you get a 20% discount if you pay $500
or more of your tuition fees upfront. Otherwise you only start
repaying your HELP debt once your income is above $38,148. HELP
repayment arrangements can be made through a compulsory repayment
made through your income tax or through voluntary repayments, with a
10% bonus on voluntary repayments of $500 or more. |

Veterinarians diagnose and treat sickness, disease and injury in all
types of animals. They advise on measures to prevent the occurrence or
spread of diseases and on ways to improve the health and productivity of
