The world of work is always changing. New industries and occupations develop as others decline.

Over the last few years Australia has seen strong employment growth in areas such as health, community services, business services, tourism and hospitality, and retail. Occupations have become more specialised and new occupations in information technology, communications and health services have surfaced and changed.

It is always a good idea to do research on different career options. There is an abundance of information on the web, including myfuture, through employment services, career information centres, professional associations, career and employment expos, Career Advice Australia and bookstores, just to name a few. To get a firm grasp of a career you are interested in you will need to explore the industry, labour market, different employers, training and education, as well as pathways.

Knowing about the changing world of work and which skills will be in demand in the future is an important first step in deciding on the education and training you need.
