Volunteer work

Around 25% of 18-24 year olds participate in volunteer work each year in Australia, Volunteer work includes all kinds of activities in a whole range of organisations. Voluntary work can take place in local community groups, wildlife conservation organisations, aid work overseas or even administrative work for charities.

Volunteer work is not only beneficial from a career perspective but extremely rewarding on a personal level. You will have the opportunity to contribute to society and help others in need. It can open your mind to a whole new world and in turn add personal growth on an individual level. Potential employers are much more inclined to hire people that have demonstrated motivation, are enthusiastic and have altruistic traits, such as an interest in helping other people.

Green Corps, Young Australians for the Environment, is an Australian Government youth development and environmental training program for young people aged between 17 and 20 years. It provides people with the opportunity to volunteer their time and effort to conserve, preserve and restore Australia’s natural environment and cultural heritage. You can find out more at their website.

If you are interested in doing some volunteer work visit the Australian Volunteer Search website to find opportunities in your local area.
